Built Environment forms a major part of the overall ecosystem in which we exist. It is an essential component of everyday life. The maintenance and improvement of our health welfare and amenity as well as the protection of our environment and heritage depends on management of environmental hazards through the effective use of planning, building and environmental controls.

The Built Environment Special Interest Group will be designed to share information relevant to the planning, building and environmental health fields. Traditionally these roles have been strongly centred around enforcement and monitoring of legislative requirements, however a new focus on principles based on performance and risk management now means that building, planning and environmental health professionals use a combination of advice, negotiation, education as well as enforcement to produce outcomes that benefit our communities.
